Social Media Best Practices

Taylor Swift is coming to Indy this weekend, which means yes, I will be in attendance. I had the privilege of calling Indianapolis home for nearly a decade, so I can’t wait to be back in the city, dancing like I’m 22 again! 💃🏻

Does my wallet love that for me? Not really.

But do WE love that for me? YES!

The outfit is set, the friendship bracelets are made, and we’re ready to celebrate all the eras of the #ErasTour.

Are you going? Let me know, and let’s meet up to swap bracelets!

Social Media Best Practices: Setting Up Your Meta Channels

Just Be Social works with many business owners who’ve attempted to manage social media marketing on their own. But what they quickly found out is that while Meta is a free channel to market, it comes with a rather large learning curve.

Over the years, we’ve found that business owners tend to set up their channels incorrectly, which leads to frustration and confusion as the company attempts to scale and grow. By the time our clients come to us, they’re tired of the Meta-verse and navigating the backend.

As social media marketers, untangling incorrect Meta setups has become a normal part of the job. But we don’t think that has to be the case. So, here are some of our best practices and guidelines for founders and business owners setting up their company pages for the first time.

PS: Feel free to share these tips with your business friends!

1. Use a Dedicated Inbox

If we had a dollar for every time a new business lets a college student or temp set up a company Instagram or Facebook page using a personal email address, we estimate we’d have about $545,080,450 (not really, but you get the gist).

While we’re not shaming startups and founders for being lean in those early days (we get it!), we are discouraging them from letting others create their pages under personal inboxes. Time and time again, we’ve witnessed an ex-employee lose access to the channels, not remember the password, or simply refuse to cooperate because they don’t work for the company anymore. YIKES! 😱

So, to help avoid these headaches down the road, we tell all of our clients to set up a dedicated inbox for just their social media account logins, passwords, and notifications. This inbox is STRICTLY for social media account management and organization only, and using it accomplishes three things:

  1. It gives YOU, the business owner, a dedicated inbox for all logins, passwords, and 2FA codes. It’s easier and more secure to add someone as an admin to an inbox that gives them everything they need related to your social media pages and accounts.

  2. It keeps your business pages out of the hands of contractors, temp employees, and college students. When your business owns the contact info for your social media channel, life is just a little bit easier.

  3. It guarantees you never lose access to your channels, nor will you have to track down an ex-employee, freelancer, or agency to change passwords or gain control of your channels. It’s the safest route for everyone involved.

2. Business vs Personal

Business pages are not personal pages, and personal pages are not business pages. We know it can be confusing, but running your business through a personal page on Instagram or Facebook is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

It doesn’t quite work, and you’re missing out on some incredible tools that were built for business success. Almost all social media platforms have dedicated paths for businesses and for a good reason!

Here’s what you get when you go the business route:

  • Professional Tools & Insights – Meta business pages come with data goldmines: audience insights, engagement stats, and reach metrics, which personal accounts can’t provide. With these in hand, you can track what’s working, adjust your strategy, and, ultimately, grow.

  • Built-In Advertising Options – Want to promote a post? Maybe target specific audiences? Business accounts let you access these advertising options, making it easy to put your best content in front of the right people.

  • Boosted Credibility – A business page shows followers you’re serious. It’s like wearing a suit to a job interview instead of a hoodie. Plus, you can set up contact options, call-to-action buttons, and more that build trust and make it easy for customers to reach you.

Starting a business account on the right track might take a few extra steps, but it’s worth it. You’ll look polished, professional, and ready to grow—right from day one!

(Plus, keeping your personal pages and business pages separate reduces the risk of you posting personal opinions and thoughts to your business page 🫣).

3. Set Up Your Business Manager

Setting up your Meta Business Manager isn’t something we take lightly. It’s a complex level to Facebook and Instagram, and setting up its features incorrectly can cause big headaches and lost revenue or sales opportunities.

Here’s the deal: Meta’s Business Manager is the control center for your entire digital presence. It’s where you access all the tools you need to advertise, track, and manage your brand’s activity. Without it, you're missing out on major features essential for growth.

Why Business Manager is Non-Negotiable:

  1. Full Access to Ad Tools – Without a Business Manager, you can’t run ads at scale, track performance, or segment audiences effectively. Business Manager gives you the power to create, manage, and optimize your ads all in one place, with data-driven insights that help you make smart marketing decisions.

  2. Essential Tracking & Insights – Pixel tracking, retargeting, and conversion insights are crucial for understanding how your audience behaves and what brings them back. With Business Manager, you can set up and manage these tools for maximum impact.

  3. Product Catalog Management – For those in e-commerce, Business Manager allows you to set up product catalogs for seamless shopping experiences directly on your social profiles. This means you’re ready to go with product tags, in-app purchases, and more.

  4. Secure Access for Your Team – Business Manager also lets you assign roles, so each team member, agency, or partner gets the access they need without handing over the keys to the castle. No more “Who’s got the password?” or “Can I have that code?” panic.

Setting up a Business Manager may take a few extra steps, but those steps unlock the full suite of tools that can streamline your ad strategy, keep your business secure, and make you look like the pro you are. Trust us—your future self will thank you!

Setting up your Instagram, Facebook, or any other social media channel for success means taking a few extra moments to ensure it’s done right the first time.

Because as your channels grow and your company looks to scale, an incorrect or challenging setup could cost your company $$ down the road.

Want the setup done for you? Just Be Social can do this for $250 per social media channel (Instagram & Facebook billed as one)!

TIPS & TRICKS
Running Holiday Social Media Ads?

Is your marketing ready for the holidays? How about your social media ads? There are just a few short weeks between now and Black Friday, so you need to get those ads in the pipeline soon.

If you fear the worst because you lack good ideas, here are some examples and tips for implementing your own versions this holiday season.

Would You Rather?

🔍 This ad is a fun and playful way to grab an audience’s attention with the “Would You Rather” format. On one half, you display what your audience could get when they don’t use your products or services. On the other half, you showcase a clear-cut benefit of your product/service.

🔍 To use this format in your upcoming holiday ads, try framing your ad as a game, using interactive questions that lead them to your product or service. The more engaged your audience becomes with your ad, the more likely they’ll remember you during this busy season.

Your Product vs. Traditional Products

🔍 Consumers love a good compare-and-contrast ad. This format clearly spells out what makes your product/service stand out from your competition. The old product/service looks outdated, while the new one looks more appealing.

🔍 Utilize split-screen visuals like the example above to really hit home how your product/service stands out from traditional options – whether that’s through innovation, convenience, or quality.

1st Purchase Discount

🔍 Nothing is more enticing to the average consumer than a one-time deal for handing over their email address. If your goal is to get more email subscribers or build your audience list to retarget throughout the year, then the 1st Purchase Discount format just might be for you this holiday season.

🔍 To make this ad powerful, keep your visuals to a minimum and utilize brand colors to make the promotion stand out. Highlight the offer using a different style or bold text and keep it concise so consumers know exactly what to expect when they sign up or join.
